Malaysia to join emergency summit on Palestine in Jakarta

KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman will lead the Malaysian delegation to the 5th Emergency Summit Meeting of the Organisati­on of Islamic Cooperatio­n on Palestine and Al- Quds Al-Sharif which, among other things, aims to tackle the issue on Palestine at the internatio­nal level.

According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the emergency summit meeting to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia on March 6 and 7, is being held at the request of Palestinia­n President Mahmoud Abbas to tackle the continued illegal invasion on the Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Israeli regime.

It is expected to discuss new approaches and strategies to stop the continued illegal invasion by the Israeli regime in Palestine, and tackle the hardship faced by the Palestinia­ns,” according to the statement, here yesterday.

According to the statement, Malaysia’s participat­ion in the emergency summit meeting proved the country’s strong commitment in defending the rights of the Palestinia­ns, particular­ly the right to set up an independen­t Palestinia­n nation, based on the pre-1967 boundary, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the Palestinia­n national capital.

“As one of the OIC founding nations, Malaysia had always played an active role in the establishe­nt of the organisati­on to tackle the Palestinia­n issue at the internatio­nal level.

“Malaysia hopes the emergency summit meeting can come up with a fruitful result,” the statement said. — Bernama
