F&N brings festive cheer to 17 residents of Home of Peace

KUCHING: The incessant rain that inundated several parts of the city recently did not stop Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd (F& N) from spreading festive cheer to 17 residents of Home of Peace for the aged at Jalan Landeh here.

With gifts ranging from dining tables, pantry shelves and a water jet cleaner, F& N surprised the home with new cleaning equipment and furniture to replace worn out ones.

In addition to the much needed gifts, the visit was especially meaningful for residents as F&N employees also cooked up a delicious breakfast of ‘mee sua chicken soup’, a favourite among the seniors.

After the hearty breakfast, employees went around to extend festive greetings while distributing goodie bags filled with F& N products and mandarin oranges to residents at the home.

F&N head of Communication and Corporate Affairs Karen Tan said the company was delighted to spend time with the residents and help them end the festive season on a high note.

“Many of the residents with no families do not have much to look forward to during Chinese New Year. We hope our visit can liven up the festive season and put a smile on their faces,” she said.

The outreach programme was part of a Chinese New Year filial piety initiative held by the company to share joy and spread festive cheer with less fortunate members of society.

Apart from Home of Peace, this year’s community effort included residents of Home for the Aged (CWS) Simee, Ipoh.

Home of Peace manager Jerome Lim thanked F&N for its contribution and spending time with the residents during the festive season.

“The residents look forward to visits from groups and companies like F&N as they long for companionship. Small and caring gestures such as talking to them or simply sitting with them mean a lot to them,” he said.

Home of Peace was set up by the Catholic Welfare Services of Sarawak in 2009 as part of its mission to extend love and care to the elderly poor. It welcomes destitute elderly poor irrespective of race, religion or gender and depends solely on sponsorships and donations from the public.

The home cares for 17 residents with the help of 13 staff including two nuns, qualified nurses, office staff and general workers.
