SIBU: The inaugural charity concerts by University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) and Radio Era on March 26 in Kuching and April 2 in Sibu aim to raise at least RM50,000 for five charitable bodies.

UCTS vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Abdul Hakim Juri told a press conference here Thursday that they hoped to raise at least RM10,000 each for Sarawak Children Cancer Society, Peryatim Kuching, Rumah Seri Kenangan Sibu, Peryatim Sibu, and Sibu Agape Center.

The three-hour ‘Konsert Amal UCTS Era 2016’ themed ‘Building A Bright and Caring Future’ will be held on Mar 26 at CityOne Megamall in Kuching and on April 2 at UCTS in Sibu, both events starting 7pm.

“We therefore, hope to get corporate bodies to support in line with their caring spirit.

“This concert is also held in conjunction with UCTS Info Day 2016 in Kuching from Mar 25 till 27 and UCTS Open Day 2016 in Sibu on April 2 and 3,” Abdul Hakim said.

Artistes to perform include Noh Salleh, Mojo, Misha Omar, Eyza Bahra and Farah Farhanah.

Admission to the concert is free of charge.

Abdul Hakim said he hoped that, through the concert, they would be able to promote UCTS to more Bumiputera students, adding that currently less than 28 per cent of its students are Bumiputeras.

He said besides finding out courses which are available during the Info and Open Day, the public can also find out about funding options.

“This year we target to raise our students’ population to about 2,000 from the present number of about 1,300. Therefore, with the new intakes this year, we hope to realise our target.”

He said the university was well equipped and there were new facilities and equipment, new academic block, food technology as well as engineering labs.

The Info Day in Kuching is from 10am to 10pm on March 25 - 26 and 10am to 3pm on March 27.

As for the Open Day at UCTS Sibu, it is 9am to 11pm on April 2 and 9am to 3pm the following day.

Fifty applicants during the Info and Open Day will be selected to meet the artistes at a location yet to be disclosed, said Abdul Hakim.

UCTS senior manager (corporate and marketing) Lu Yew King and Astro Radio account executive (sales) Andy Wei were also present at the press conference.
