Olivia Newton-John’s new album inspired by ‘grief’ and ‘loss’

OLIVIA Newton- John has recorded a new album to help people deal with grief.

The 67-year- old star has teamed up with American country musician Beth Nielsen Chapman and Canadian singer/ songwriter Amy Sky to make ‘Liv On’, which is inspired by the trio’s own experiences of grief and loss and has been made to help others who have suffered bereavement.

Discussing the musical project, Newton- John said: “As a group, it’s our intention with this album to create songs with a message of compassion and hope. They are for anyone facing a time of challenge in their life, whether it is grieving a loss or on the journey to health and recovery. ‘Liv On’ means to thrive, to have hope and to remember.

“Loss and grief occur for many reasons, whether it’s losing a loved one, relationship, one’s health, pet or job, to name just a few. It’s important to remember that each person’s grief is as individual as his or her DNA, and there truly is no timeline for healing from loss. With the fast-paced society we live in, we are often forced to ‘get over things.’ However,

Newton- John, Chapman and Sky recorded the 11-track collection — which is released on June 10 — at Studio at the Palms in Las Vegas with the band Newton- John performs with for

her concert residency at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino.

While in the studio the three women shared stories of bereavement as well as joy which provided the subject matter for the songs’ lyrics.

‘Grease’ actress Newton- John experienced much hardship in 1992 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer on the same weekend her father died from liver cancer.

Newton- John — who chronicled her battle with cancer on her 1994 LP “Gaia: One Woman’s Journey” — insists music has always played a big part in her life when she’s been faced with adversity and she wants ‘ Liv On’ to do the same for her fans.

The singer — who is married to John Easterling — told the Las Vegas Sun newspaper: “Music touches the soul. It heals us. They use music to help grow plants, to soothe babies. Sounds are a part of life, the universe. Music also reminds us of events in our life and takes us back there in our minds. A bird’s song, the wind, the human voice, these things that are common to us all — connect us.” — BANG Showbiz
