Penguang welcomed with Iban ceremony in Bukit Song

MARUDI: Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, the designated SPDP candidate for Marudi, was greeted by more than 2,000 supporters in full Iban traditiona­l welcoming ceremony that included the ‘ piring’ and Iban dance when he visited Rumah Wilson Juna, Sg Nakat, Bukit Song near here yesterday.

Penguang was at the longhouse to attend the ‘SPDP leaders with the people’ gathering, which was also attended by SPDP supreme council member Wan Lah, SPDP Marudi deputy chairman TR Benang Pilang, Egi Bangat of PRS Senadin, Cr Khalid Sabel of PBB Marudi and SPDP Marudi Women chairlady Theresa Gelang.

Penguang told the longhouse folks and members of other BN component parties that he was very happy with the show of support.

He thanked them for inviting him to their longhouse and urged those present to support the BN government led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and his candidacy in the coming state election.

Stressing that the chief minister has laid out a very strong policy that emphasised on the need to develop rural areas, Penguang called on them to give him a strong mandate so that he would be able to represent the community in

At the end of the function, Penguang received membership applicatio­ns from 270 new SPDP members from the longhouse who resigned from Teras.

The forms were handed over to Penguang by Jaya Ramba, who represente­d the group.
