‘Villages also need recreation­al activities for healthy living’

MIRI: Recreation­al activities should also be carried out in villages to create healthy living.

Assistant Minister of Early Childhood Education and Family Developmen­t Rosey Yunus pointed out that youths in villages, especially, need recreation­s to distract them from being involved in social ills such as drug abuse, illegal racing, glue sniffing and so on.

In urging villages to set up recreation­al clubs, she said: “Besides promoting healthy living lifestyle, recreation­al activities can also serve as a platform for the people in a village to renew and foster closer relationsh­ip with one another.”

Rosey, who is also Bekenu assemblywo­man, was speaking at the launching of a Niah badminton club at Sepupok Community Hall recently.

Assuring her support for the club, she said she hoped it would organise more competitiv­e activities so that they can produce a pool of young talented athletes.

At the function, Rosey presented a government grant of RM3,000 under Minor Rural Project to the club.

Member of Parliament for Sibuti Ahmad Lai Bujang also contribute­d the same amount to the club which was presented on his behalf by councilor Anuar Ahmad who is the patron of the club.

Meanwhile, the club is chaired by Abdul Halik Jafar with Osman Morni as secretary and Afandi Mamat as treasurer.

Committee members are Awang Pungut Awang Karim, Hassan Matni, Mohiddin Masaleh, Dahlan Tuah, Abdul Rasid Sahari, Josni Shahmad, Jimmy anak Intai, Fredie anak Sirai and Ho Kei Boon.

Abdul Halik said the club currently has 43 members.
