SIBU: Uriah See Khai, the Malaysian lad from Johor who shot to fame like a shooting star in 2014, had his fans in Sibu closer at heart after his performance in Star Mega Mall last Friday.

In the concert hosted by See Hua Daily News, Uriah sang four songs, two of which were from his latest EP released last year end.

The 20-year- old has since been on concert tours and has received overwhelming response from his fans throughout the country.

Among the songs he sang here were the two from his EP, the Chinese song entitled “Giving Love” and an English song entitled “The Only Thing that Matters”.

The two songs were composed and written by the talented youth himself.

Uriah interacted well with his fans in a game during the concert. He gave out his CDs to the winners.

The lad was only 19 years old when he beat 1,000 contestants to emerge the winner of the annual Astro Star Quest Chinese Singing Competition 2014 in Bukit Jalil Stadium in August. He was then a student. From there, he went on to win the World Championship at the TVB International Chinese New Talents Singing Competition in Hong Kong on Nov 30, after beating even the best of the best from China, and also the cream of new talents from around the world, including those from the USA, Australia, Singapore, Canada and New Zealand.

In earlier interviews by various newspapers, he said his participation in Astro Star Quest 2014 came by chance - a chance which he nearly missed.

“Initially, I did not know about it. I was in a cafe with my family when my friend told us about it. My mother then checked it out online and found it was the last day for registration. So, I prepared a demo and sent it in.”

He did his best in the competition and beat 1,000 contestants to win the Astro prestigious singing title.

Then, in the international singing competition in Hong Kong, he felt the pressure.

He said he was fortunate Astro trained him well.

Uriah grew up in Pontian. He regarded himself lucky because he said he had the best of both worlds.
