Man gets 4 years’ jail for housebreak­ing, theft

KUCHING: A jobless man was sentenced to four years in prison by the magistrate­s’ court here yesterday for committing housebreak­ing and theft.

The 22-year-old Liew Vui Sin from Bau pleaded guilty to the charge read to him before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi who convicted him under Section 457 of the Penal Code. The accused was found guilty of committing the offence at a house in Kampung Sibuluh, Bau around 6am on March 6.

The the house owner had lodged a police report that the front door was forced open.

He said upon checking, he found out that some of his gold jewellerie­s including a gold necklace, gold pendants, gold earrings and a gold ring were missing.

He also discovered that an electric guitar and documents including an entry pass to an army camp were also missing.

On March 9, following the police report, the accused was arrested at his house at Jalan Emas, Bau, who then led the police team to a room at his house where the electric guitar and a gold ring were found.

An Indonesian woman aged 24 found inside the room was detained but was eventually released.

During the investigat­ion, the police were also led by the accused to a goldsmith at Batu Kawa where the gold necklace was sold for RM550 which was seized as exhibit.

In an unrelated case, a 32-yearold man was sentenced to four months in prison for committing criminal intimidati­on on his own brother last year.

The court imposed the sentence on Razif Abdul Rajak who pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

The offence was committed around 8.30pm on Nov 7 last year at a house in Kampung Rampanga Phase 1 in Petrajaya here.

The accused had threatened to cause death to his brother in front of their father for interferin­g in some of his matters.
