Police launch manhunt for killers

-

SIBU: The police are hunting for the robbers responsible for the death of a man who was protecting his wife from being robbed as they were walking home from a wedding reception in Sibu Jaya on March 13.

In a press conference yesterday, Sibu police chief ACP Mohd Kamal Kordi said the manhunt was launched after they had identified the killers.

He hoped members of the public could assist the police in solving the murder promptly.

He said police had received reports that the robbers had mingled with the crowd in the wedding reception before following the couple home.

Mohd Kamal did not mention whether these robbers were “wolves in sheep’s skin” in the wedding, but he assured the police were all out hunting for them already.

“The wife of slain Louis Lumping encountered the robbers and saw their faces. But, she said they were strangers. The police have worked beyond that to include other evidence to identify the killers.”

In the incident at 1.30am, Louis Lumping and wife were walking home at Town Villa in Sibu Jaya’s residential area after a wedding reception, about 50 metres from their house.

Louis, 64, who was walking in front of his wife, heard her screaming when two robbers attacked her.

Louis ran over to protect her, fought with the robbers and was killed. He sustained a slash wound on his forehead.

The robbers fled with RM400 cash and a pair of ear rings.
