Superb opens up opportunities for young Bumipreneurs, says Teraju

KUALA LUMPUR: The Bumiputera Startup Entrepreneurs Scheme ( Superb) under the government’s Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit ( Teraju) opens up opportunities for those without the academic qualifications but with creative and innovative business ideas.

Teraju Chief Executive Officer Datuk Husni Salleh said the scheme aims to uncover young talents through business pitch competitions, with about 100 winners so far given grants of RM500,000.

Speaking to Bernama after launching the book ‘ Aspirasi Unikorn Bumipreneur: Stories from the Frontline’ by the Malaysian Association of Bumiputera ICT Industry & Entrepreneurs ( NEF) recently, he said over 5,000 Bumiputera entrepreneurs nationwide have joined the Superb scheme, which this year will provide RM20 million in grants to at least 40 start- up entrepreneurs.

Husni said this year Teraju will hold three to four Superb BizPitch programmes, open to entrepreneurs below 40 years of age who have creative and innovative business ideas.

In the first round, participants join a bootcamp over several days, and in the final round, about 25 of them will pitch their original business ideas to a panel of renowned Malaysian entrepreneurs.

They may send a two- minute online presentation to the Teraju website.

NEF was set up in 1997 to give voice to Bumiputera ICT entrepreneurs.

Superb, launched in 2014 with funding of RM100 million over three years, helps Bumiputera entrepreneurs and startup companies to commercialise their products and take their business to the next level. — Bernama
