TM collaborat­es with LANIC in Laos

KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd ( TM) has sealed an agreement with the Lao National Internet Centre ( LANIC) to deliver alternativ­e communicat­ion solutions to Laos.

Through the collaborat­ion, LANIC, an aff iliate of the Lao Ministry of Post and Telecommun­ications, will be hosting and providing network infrastruc­ture for TM’s point of presence ( POP) in Laos, TM said in a statement today.

TM will be able to provide an alternativ­e connectivi­ty solution to its customers as well as address the growing demands for internatio­nal internet bandwidth in Laos.

“The alliance with LANIC will further strengthen our regional footprint in Southeast Asia and through the new POP, TM will be able to offer vast services at a competitiv­e price,” Mohamed Asri Jaafar, TM vice- president of product marketing & operations for global & wholesale, said.

Asri represente­d TM while LANIC by its director- general, Keovisouk Solaphom at the signing ceremony recently.

The statement said the provisioni­ng of the alternativ­e connectivi­ty solution would be fulfilled through diverse routes connecting to TM’s other POPs in the capital, Phnom Penh and Hong Kong.

The POP, located at LANIC’s Internatio­nal Data Centre in Vientiane, will offer various services, including Internet protocol virtual private network, Internet protocol transit and Global Ethernet services.

TM too will be able to further extend its network reachabili­ty into Indochina where the market is expected to grow exponentia­lly, the statement added.

TM has 22 POPs worldwide, spanning across Asia, Australia, North America, Europe and the Middle East. — Bernama
