KUCHING: The police will extend their recruitment efforts to universities in the search for inspectors with specialisations in different fields in a bid to improve the force.

Federal Management Department director Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said the police would visit top- ranking universities nationwide to explain the benefits of choosing a career with the police.

“We are looking at those with degrees in Information Technology, Accountancy and even Islamic Studies. This is vital in tackling several new issues faced by the police,” he said after attending the closing ceremony for Intake III of the constable squad 2015 training session yesterday.

“For example, issues such as the Islamic State extremist group, cyber security and finance. These are a few fields that the police need expertise on.”

Zulkifli said recruits with certified skills would be necessary for the Malaysian police to achieve world- class standards.

“We also will enhance on soft skills, particularly communication for all our new recruits,” he said.

He pointed out that the 2016 intake involved 1,200 inspectors and 1,800 constables, and called for more funding to enable more personnel to be recruited next year as many in the service are expected to retire.

In his speech, Zulkifli said Bukit Aman would continuously improve training modules to ensure they are of world standards.

“Various modules have been improved and we are looking at producing quality human capital who at the same time have integrity,” he said.

He advised all recruits to have a first- class mentality in order for the police to be acknowledged globally.

Zulkifli later joined the planting of over 100 trees such as mango, guava and black mulberry under the ‘ Reson Buak’ fruit garden project.

A total of 1,302 recruits took part in the ceremony yesterday.
