Rumah Anjat a hive of fun activities during Gawai

SIBU: The 18- door Rumah Anjat turned into a hive of activities as folks from all walks of life took part in the Gawai Dayak celebratio­n.

The longhouse located along Nibong Tada Road near here about 20 minutes drive from Sibu Airport was lighted up during the night.

A resident, Robert Angkah, who is also secretary of the Associated Taxi Owners Associatio­n of Sarawak, noted folk from far and near visited the longhouse thus further strengthen­ing racial unity and harmony.

“Gawai is the time for merrymakin­g and rapport building among people from diverse background­s. The open house or goodwill visit need to be continuous­ly preserved for the good of all.

“It is a good time to catch up with families and friends. Many family members returned for this year’s celebratio­n,” Robert said Thursday.

He was also delighted that a former class mate from the class of 85 of Sacred Heart Secondary School, Dato Sri Dr Benny Lee visited him on the eve of the celebratio­n.

memories of the old school days,” he enthused.

According to Robert, the celebratio­n was an array of activities such as karaoke, pocopoco and door-to- door visit among others until the wee hours.

He added there was a traditiona­l dance or ‘ ngajat’ to mark the celebratio­n.
