Dennis: Spiritual devt unites the people
MARU DI : T e l a n g Us a n assemblyman Dennis Ngau said the people should be thankful for religious freedom.
“Although Islam is the official religion of the country, people from other faiths are free to practise their beliefs without fear.
“The government recognised and acknowledged the role and contribution of spiritual development to unite the people,” Dennis said during Gawai visiting at Rumah Ridap in Marudi.
He said it declared June 1 a public holiday to recognise the significance of the celebration to the Dayak communities and their contribution to development.
In this context, the assemblyman ur g e d the c ommuni t y to contemplate the meaning of the celebration and its role in fostering unity and understanding among communities.
“Let unity and understanding forever remain among us for us to work together to achieve the common goal despite differences in political stand and views.”
Mulu a ssemblyman Dato Gerawat Gala, Political Secretary to Chief Minister Robert Laing Anyi and Telang Usan branch member s of Pa r t i Pe saka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) also extended Gawai cheer to the longhouse community.
Both assemblymen thanked the community for their support and confidence in Barisan Nasional in the last state election.
They assured that the Barisan Nasional government would not forget the rural community which had given them the mandate.
“The rural community can expect the government under Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem to continue its development agenda for rural constituencies like Telang Usan, Mulu and Marudi.”
