Edid turns Rela team into shooting stars
KUCHING: ThestateRela shooting contingent has proven to be sharpshooters at a major competition held in Melaka recently, with the shotgun.
According to a delighted Datuk Paruwadi Musa who sponsored the team, the state Rela shooting contingent won three gold and one silver medal during the competition known as the 2016 National Shooting Skills Test ( UKMR- K) which took place recently at the Rela National Academy Malaysia (ALARM).
The state team won all three gold medals on the first day of the competition which was held from May 30 to June 2 through the shotgun (senapang patah) event. It was a big turn- around for Sarawak which finished in bottom place at last year’s competition.
Edid Ngupil was the hero as he played a crucial role to win two gold medals to help the state win all three gold medals – enough to help Sarawak emerge as overall winner in the category where another gold medal was awarded to the team for becoming overall winners.
Chong Fah Chin won the silver medal for Sarawak through the M-16 category.
“Whatever it is, we have achieved our target as we never aimed for three gold medals before the competition. I hope the state Rela team will be able to bring in more shooting honours for the state in the future,” added Paruwadi.
Apart from the golden finish, Sarawak contingent’s battle cry of “Oo ha, you, you, agi idup, agi ngelaban” was also adjudged by competition officials, which included National Rela directorgeneral Datuk Kamariah Mohd Noah, as the best battle cry on this year’s shooting range.
This year’s Rela team comprised 10 male and 10 female shooters to represent the state. Apart from shotgun and the M-16 category, the state team competed in the pistol category as well.
Ranked Rela officers took part in the pistol category while ordinary officers took part in the other categories.
Rela state deputy director PPJKR Zulfikar Abang Raduan was Sarawak’s Rela shooting team manager this year, assisted by PRD Zulkipli Moh.
