University’s ‘Ramadan without smoke’ to kick habit
NILAI: Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia ( USIM) is launching a campaign called ‘Ramadan without smoke’ in conjunction with the approaching Ramadan in an effort to stop the smoking habit and vape smoking among university students and staff.
Chairman of the University’s Board of Directors, Professor Tan Sri Datuk Dzulkifli Abdul Razak said the campaign aimed to create awareness and provide psycho- education to USIM staff and students wishing to stop smoking cigarettes and vape by taking advantage from the blessings of Ramadan as a start to discard the habit.
“Earlier this year, we enforced the campus as a non- smoking zone which also included vape by imposing a certain form of compound and disciplinary action.
“But what is more important is the effort to create awareness on the danger of smoking cigarettes and vape to staff and students on a continuous basis including providing space for hardcore smokers wishing to change to participate in the modules provided via the Stop Smoking Clinic,” he said in a statement, here yesterday.
Dzulkifli said USIM chose the slogan ‘ Ramadan Without Smoke’ as a form of motivation for hardcore smokers wishing to kick the habit.
The campaign is a continuation from the World Without Tobacco Day Celebration on May 31 every year. — Bernama
