Malaysia and Cambodia sign MoU on information, broadcasting cooperation
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and Cambodia yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate in the areas of broadcasting and information exchange.
The MoU was signed by Cambodian Information Minister Khieu Kanharith and Malaysian Agriculture and Agro- based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek on behalf of Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
The signing was witnessed by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at Perdana Putra here in conjunction with Hun Sen’s official visit to Malaysia.
In a joint statement, the two countries said they realised the huge benefits that could be derived from the information and broadcasting cooperation.
These include the exchange of news material and radio or television reports, covering the political, economic, social and cultural aspects of both countries.
Malaysian National News Agency ( Bernama) general manager Datuk Zulkefli Salleh said that under the MoU, Bernama would play its part in the areas of news and information dissemination with the cooperation of the Cambodian news agency, Agence Kampuchea Press.
“We in Bernama always look forward to working closely with news agencies, television or radio from the Asean member countries, especially to foster the spirit of the Asean Community,” he told Bernama after the signing ceremony.
Meanwhile, both countries also inked an MoU on the International Volunteers Programme of MyCorps in Cambodia.
Najib, at the joint press conference, said the two countries agreed to continue the programme, with 100 volunteers being sent to Cambodia this year.
“Forty Malaysian youths participated in last year’s programme and another 100 will participate this year,” he said. — Bernama
