PAS: Support given to Amanah same as to DAP

-

KOTA BAHARU: PAS considers the support given by the voters to Amanah Negara (Amanah) in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by- elections is just like giving their support to DAP.

PAS central election director Datuk Mustafa Ali claimed that this was because Amanah was sponsored by DAP who had promised support to Amanah candidates for both by- elections.

“As such, supporting DAP is similar to supporting PAN (Amanah), so we will see how that will end,” he said in his closing speech during the 62nd PAS Central Committee annual assembly in Pengakalan Chepa, here yesterday.

Commenting further, in the context of the by- elections, he said PAS was now facing a different situation as compared to before that involved more rivals. He said, previously PAS only needed to contest Barisan Nasional ( BN) candidates one-to- one, but now PAS faced rivalry from all ends.

Mustafa said, in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by- elections on June 18, PAS will contest BN, Amanah and DAP, although PAS has yet to nominate candidates for both the by- elections.

“We are up against three now – BN, Amanah and DAP. However, we are not contesting against PKR as they are still with us, although they are with Pakatan Harapan. We will see what will transpire eventually,” he said.

Meanwhile, PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said in his closing speech that PAS is currently in a challenging position especially towards the coming 14th General Election.

He added, although PAS still has set collaborations with several other parties, it still seems to stand alone.

“Thus, PAS needs to work hard in each constituency so that when election time comes, we are wellprepared,” he emphasised.

PAS secretary- general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the proposal brought by PAS's women's wing ( Dewan Muslimat PAS) for political collaboration (tahaluf siyasi) with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will be presented at the PAS Ulama Syura Council.

“This proposal moves for the improvement of ties between PAS and PKR. Whatever form of relationship that needs to be improved currently, we take from the positive angle. However, the final decision still depends on the Syura Council,” he told reporters after the muktamar.

Meanwhile, PAS Youth chief Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul said the PAS Central Committee will go to each constituency to explain to its party members of its new political policy that is mature and prosperous politics. He said this explanation would facilitate the PAS machinery at the ground level to understand the new political style introduced. — Bernama
