Report use of mosques for political talks — Noh

-

SABAK BERNAM: Selangor Umno yesterday advised the people to report to the authorities any use of mosques and surau for political talks during the campaign for the Sungai Besar parliamentary by- election.

Selangor Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar said it was important to comply with the recent decree of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, for religious talks at these houses of worship during the Ramadan fasting month to be free of politics.

“During the month of Ramadan, electoral campaigns cannot be held at mosques and surau, and all quarters including Umno must abide by the decree of the Sultan of Selangor,” he told reporters after attending the Sungai Besar Entrepreneurs Carnival here.

The event was opened by Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Noh also said that preachers without credentials from the Selangor Islamic Affairs Council should not be allowed to deliver religious talks.

The Sungai Besar by- election is being held following the death of the MP and Deputy Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Noriah Kasnon in a helicopter crash in Sarawak on May 5.
