32,949 eligible voters for K. Kangsar by-election

KUALA KANGSAR: The Kuala Kangsar parliament­ary constituen­cy has 32,949 registered voters for the June 18 byelection.

Returning officer Mior Muhammad Jamil Mior Zakaria said the number includes 32,632 ordinary voters, 312 early voters and five absentee voters.

“A total of 15,334 ordinary voters are from the Bukit Chandan state constituen­cy and 17,298 from the state constituen­cy of Manong. For Bukit Chandan, there'll be 292 early voters and for Manong 20 early voters,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

He said 25 polling centres 71 voting streams will be provided. “The polling centres are at 19 primary and secondary schools, two halls, two Sekolah Agama Rakyat and two district police headquarte­rs” he said.

Mior Muhammad Jamil said early voting will be held on June 14, while the first issuance of postal ballot papers will be on June 8 while the second issuance will be at the latest by Jun 10.

“The postal votes must be received by the Election Commission at the latest by 5pm on polling day (June 18),” he said.

The Kuala Kangsar parliament­ary by-election is being held following the death of Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5.

Meanwhile, 15 per cent of police personnel from the Tapah district police headquarte­rs will be in Kuala Kangsar to assist in the by- election. Tapah district deputy police chief DSP Mohd Razali Abdullah said the personnel have been assigned to Kuala Kangsar to ensure a smooth and peaceful polling process.

“All the policemen involved will report for duty at 3pm today,” he told reporters. — Bernama
