SIBU: Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee assures folks in 34 longhouses in his constituency that he will deliver his promises made during the 11th state election.

Speaking at a Gawai celebration here yesterday, Dr Annuar, who is Assistant Minister for Science Research and Biotechnology, however, hoped they could be patient as he could not fulfil all of them ‘in one go’.

“I have the lists of requests by the longhouse chiefs in each of the areas. Let me do it stage-by-stage for all the 34 longhouses,” he reassured when officiating at the function, adding that he would continue to work closely with the longhouse chiefs.

The event was organised by the Gawai celebration committee of Nangka constituency.

But as for the setting up of the six tuition centres, he said this would be done immediately. He added that forms have been distributed, urging parents to ensure that their children complete them.

From there, he said they would be able to plan where to set up the tuition centres to cater for the educational needs of children in the longhouses.

“The tuition is offered free-ofcharge and I hope they will make good of this opportunity.”

He described this as a very important project.

Adding on, he said he would work on the flooring tiles at Rh Jawin.

On the only two longhouses, namely Rh Donny Nyanggai and Rh Bungkong, which are still without treated water, he assured that he was working on it.

He also wanted to ensure the welfare of old folk and needy in longhouses would be better taken care of.

On the MRP grant to JKKKs of each of the longhouses in the constituency, he said this would be increased, given his capacity as an assistant minister.

Elaborating, he said the amount would be upped to almost RM5,000. Some will receive RM10,000 while the rest gets RM7,500 depending on the number of doors of each longhouse.

Towards this end, he personally thanked the longhouse chiefs and voters in Nangka for being staunch supporters of BN.

He noted from the just concluded state election, nearly 90 per cent of the Bumiputera in Nangka stood solidly behind BN under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

In the 11th state election, Dr Annuar retained his seat with a larger majority of 7,617 votes against 5,302 votes previously.

Dr Annuar garnered 9,617 votes to defeat PKR’s Abdul Raafidin Majidi, who polled 2,000 votes, while State Reform Party (STAR)’s Simon Tiong Ing Tung, got 773 votes.

Present were political secretary to the chief minister Tengku Geruna and Temenggong Stanley Geramong.
