Rapala, storm jigging fishing contest in Sg Sibuti on July 24

-

MIRI: Anglers are invited to enter the ‘Rapala & Storm Jigging Fishing’ competition to be held in Sibuti rivermouth on July 24.

Entry fee is RM250 (including boat fee) and RM100 (excluding boat fee) per person. All entry forms must reach the organisers by 4pm on or before the July 10 closing date.

The contest is run by Miri Anglers Cub, in liaison with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency Miri, Marine Fisheries Department, Sarawak Forestry Corporation and Neighbourhood Watch Committee of Kuala Sibuti.

According to MAC Sports secretary Vincent Lo, long boats and speedboats are allowed in the competition, but each must be equipped with a set of safety jackets.

“The event will kick off at 7am and every participant should come early for registration, then queue up at the jetty by the rivermouth. All vessels are to sail off together after flag-off,” he said yesterday.

Fishing locations will be at Batu Tar and Batu Besar. All anglers are prohibited around the oil platforms or drilling rigs.

Lo reminded all competitors to take necessary precautions to preserve the freshness of the fish caught – those unreasonably stale will be disqualified.

“They should be present at the jetty before 3pm to place their fish for judging, and they are entitled to bring in any number of fish for weighing and to win prizes.

“The one with the heaviest fish will be adjudged the champion,” he said.
