Ultimate Ninja Run raises funds for charity

-

MIRI: A group of Curtin students and runners from Kuching, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu, Labuan and Brunei ran for charity yesterday.

Jointly organised by Curtin Student Council and VAD 57 of Curtin Sarawak, Ultimate Ninja Run aimed to raise funds for charitable organisations and nongovernmental organisations here.

Assistant Minister for Tourism Lee Kim Shin commended the student council and VAD Unit for showing and sharing love, care and concern for the less fortunate in society.

“You have come up with a creative, fun and healthy way to promote volunteerism, care, love and concern about others,” Lee said.

Lee said it was important for students to nurture noble values to be caring members of society.

“The money collected for the run would mostly go to nongovernmental organisations and charitable organisations. I hope there would be more such activities to promote Miri as a healthy and caring city.”

Lee commended Curtin Student Council for introducing the first obstacle run in Miri called the Ultimate Ninja Run.

The tourism assistant minister said such activities could draw tourists.

Lee would like to see the marathon run held in Miri.

“I have proposed to Sarawak Marathon Club here in Miri to organise international marathons. We already have Sarawak international triathlons here.”

Lee suggested that the student council come up with another run like the Ninja run. People here are creative and should come up with new ideas that draw visitors to this city.
