Malaysia to share experience in eradicating poverty at ILO conference
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will share its experience on programmes to eradicate poverty and improve living standards, among others, at the four-day International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, beginning June 6.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, who will represent Malaysia at the conference, would also touch on the collaboration and cooperation between the country and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), particularly on improving labour standards.
In a statement yesterday, the ministry said during the conference, Riot was scheduled to hold discussions with ILO social protection experts to obtain technical views on social security protection for workers, as well as appropriate additional benefits.
He is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Singapore’s Manpower Minister, Lim Swee Say, in relation to the current labour policies between the two countries.
The statement said the ILO’s 105th conference involved five technical committees which would meet simultaneously, and among the topics to be discussed were ‘Information and Reports on the Application of the Convention and Recommendation’; ‘Decent Work in Global Supply Chains’ and’ Decent Work for Peace, Security and Disaster Resilience’.
The ILO is an agency under the United Nations which addresses labour issues, and sets international labour standards.
Each year, the ILO organises the International Labour Conference (ILC), which has become the main forum for ‘tripartite’ discussions between governments, employers and workers representatives. — Bernama
