KOTA KINABALU: Orange Convenience Store Sdn Bhd increased its role in the Sabah tourism industry with the ongoing transformation of its 24- hour outlets throughout Malaysia.

“We want to provide convenience for the tourists coming to visit our stores,” said TCT Trading Sdn Bhd managing director Dato Tan Kar Leong.

“We not only do courier service but also laundry mart service at our Orange outlets for the convenience of the people, including tourists.

“Talks are also underway for a car rental service here so the people can easily access the service here. So it would be easier and we are expecting it to start next month,” he added.

According to Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Pang Yuk Ming, 24- hour convenience stores play an integral part in tourism as it provides round-the- clock access to its services and products.

“This kind of services are for the tourists so it is a very important part of tourism,” said the assistant minister, adding that the outlet can be a great platform to showcase and sell local tourism products.

“Being a convenient store that sells products from all over, it is very important that Tan tries to promote some local products.

“We hope a lot of companies, especially those doing tourism or tourism related business like convenience stores, find ways to help our rural folks by giving them a chance to benefit from the tourism industry,” he added.

Pang said this when launching the three Orange Convenience Store new image and concept outlets as well as TCT VIP membership card at 1Borneo Hypermall here on Saturday.

“We intend to give back to the society with the introduction of this VIP Card. Our intention is for you to save. You can get 6 per cent to 20 per cent discount at our One Stop Superstore, which has about 72 outlets all around Sabah and 122 outlets in Malaysia,” said Tan.

“At Orange, you are entitled to get 3 per cent using the VIP Card and in the laundry mart 20 per cent discount, and LECA Home and Furnishing 20 per cent discount also. The card can also be used in Century Supermarket.

“We have close to 450,000 VIP card holders in Sabah, 60 per cent of the card holders are active, and for example at the One Stop Superstore, more than half of the sales are from the VIP card holders,” he added.
