Three cheers for Lions Club of Miri Mandarin’s roaring success

MIRI: The Lions Club of Miri Mandarin ( LCMM) takes pride in wrapping up three significan­t projects in the month of May, all of which were a roaring success.

Its president Albert Ong said the three achievemen­ts were: Saving the environmen­t with tree-planting; an earth-breaking ceremony for covered corridor of Riam Road Secondary School and engaging the youths; and a donation of tables and chairs to the school canteen.

In total, the Lions have donated RM28,000 to four recipients.

They are Riam Road Secondary School (RM21,000 for the covered corridor); Kidney Dialysis Centre of Malaysian Red Crescent ( MRC), Miri Chapter ( RM5,000); Sunflower Centre (RM1,000) and Riam Road Secondary School’s Leo Club and Riam Institute of Technology’s Leo Club ( RM500 each).

“All these were made possible due to the cooperatio­n and support from our members through their generosity, kindness and caring gesture. My heartfelt thanks to all my members and not forgetting, other Lion clubs and the general public for their assistance in one way or another who also contribute­d to the success of our projects,” he acknowledg­ed yesterday.

According to Ong, the Lions Club of Miri Mandarin was one of the biggest clubs in the 308A-2 District, which they are proud of, and currently there were 151 registered members.

On the next programme, he said they were headed for Manila on June 8, for an eight- day stay where the Lions will engage in various activities there.

“One of them is to do oversea centennial projects, and the next is to attend the 40th anniversar­y celebratio­n of Manila Friendship Lions Club,” Ong said.

Then on June 18, Ong and his team will visit the ‘Min Chi Taipei Lions Club’ in Taipei to celebrate the 21st of Sisters Club of the Lions Club of Taipei.
