Lok Thian celebrates 50th anniversary, expands restaurant
KUCHING: The Lok Thian Group has planned various events in conjunction with its 50th anniversary celebration.
Its managing director Foo Kee Ann revealed yesterday that they will expand the popular Joyous Shanghai Restaurant to accommodate 500 people from 300 currently.
“The restaurant will be expanded to second floor. However, operation of the restaurant on the third floor will go on as usual. Renovation will start in July and is expected to be completed by November,” he said.
Foo highlighted this at a press conference to welcome 11 celebrity chefs from Hong Kong on a three- day visit to Kuching city at Happy Diners in Crown Square here.
The celebrity chefs, with seven of them accorded two Michelin Stars to their names, were here to promote friendship and cultural exchange under the invitation of the Lok Thian Group.
They had just attended the 2016 International Celebrity Chefs Charity Night at Kuala Lumpur recently.
Adding on, Foo said that the new Joyous Shanghai Restaurant will roll out special promotion with the theme ‘50’ after the facelift.
“It will be very special and diners can look forward to improved and new dishes in the menu besides attractive discounts,” he explained.
Other than Chinese cuisine, Lok Thian also offers Japanese cuisine at its Ten-Ichi Restaurant and Thailand cuisine at its Bangkok Thai Seafood Restaurant.
“We will continue to improve our services and culinary offerings to contribute back to society as our appreciation to the public support over five decades,” he added.
Meanwhile, leader of the entourage chef Peter Tsang Kang Hung said they took the opportunity to detour to Kuching for a visit after attending the Celebrity Chefs Charity Night held in KL.
“We are very delighted to be here as part of our charity works to contribute to global society. We are also honoured to be part of Lok Thian’s 50th anniversary celebrations and have provided various recommendations to celebrate its remarkable past and exciting future through food,” he said.
“More importantly, this visit also aims to build bridge of friendship between the chefs and Lok Thian. If time permits, we will come back for the reopening of the Joyous Shanghai Restaurant later,” he added.
Tsang is the managing consultant of the Singapore HK International Restaurant Trade Friendship Association, a member of The International Exchange Association of Renowned Chinese Cuisine Chefs and vice- president of Universal Chef’s Association.
He is a much sought after judge attested by his invitation to judge in the 2015 Hong Kong Hofex Chinese Cuisine Competition and has won the ‘ Best Impressions 2015-2016’ in the Top 20 Asia’s Chefs.
