SIBU: Just sworn-in political secretary to the chief minister Michael Tiang is grateful to the Chief Minister for his trust in appointing him to the post.

He also expressed gratitude to his party Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) for grooming him and recommending him to the post.

“Through this post, I will try to do my best to serve the community,” he said when contacted after the swearing-in ceremony which was held in Kuching yesterday afternoon.

Tiang, who is also SUPP Pelawan branch secretary, said he would be based in Sibu and the area he would cover has yet to be determined, though he said he would be prepared to serve all those requiring his services.

“I truly felt honoured and since the appointment only lasts for one year, it all depends on our performance, the expectations from the Chief Minister is high and I promise to do my best,” he added.

Another SUPP member, longhouse chieftain Daniel Bujal, vice- chairman of the Bumiputera Unit of SUPP Tanjong Penasu, was also elated with his appointment.

Daniel expressed his gratitude to all Sibu SUPP members, especially SUPP Bawang Assan chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew for recommending him to the post.

‘I pledge to work hard to ensure that the livelihood of the people of Bawang Assan will be taken care of,” he added.

The two SUPP new appointees are taking from UPP members Pau Kiew Chuang and Andrew Shilling who were not reappointed to the post.

Pau, in his Facebook posting, said because he was not reappointed, he would now take a rest.

“Some of my friends asked me whether I will be back. But I don’t know if I will be back or I will not be back.

“I am focusing on my new political roles or I may even consider switching career. Nevertheless, I am happy with my own performance as a political secretary in this short period of time even though I did not contribute much to the society.”
