Chou upset none from UPP appointed political secretaries
KUCHING: United People’s Party ( UPP) advisor Dr Chou Chii Ming is dejected that none of the political secretaries to the chief minister sworn in yesterday are from the party.
Contacted here yesterday, he disclosed that the party’s central committee would convene this Sunday (July 31) to discuss, among others, the recent appointments of councillorships and political secretaries to the chief minister.
Five members of Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) Teng Ung Woo, Daniel Bujal, Tan Kai, Michael Tiang and Soo Li Ching, who were appointed political secretaries to the chief minister took their oath of office yesterday.
Prior to the appointment of the new line-up, UPP had three political secretaries to the chief minister. They were Suzanne Lee, Andrew Shiling and Pau Kiew Chuang.
“The five posts of political secretary allocated to SUPP and UPP before the 11th state election should be fairly shared by both parties in 3 ( SUPP) to 2 ( UPP).
“If all the five appointments go to SUPP, then UPP will have no political secretaries to serve the community,” said Chou.
He stressed that the Barisan Nasional ( BN) Sarawak “is expected to be just and fair in this matter.”
On a separate issue, Chou said members of the public regarded representation of nongovernmental organisations ( NGOs) in local councils as necessary and important.
“NGOs are serving the communities and people daily. They volunteer to work on the ground and really understand the hardship and problems in each area.
“So representation of NGOs in local councils will enable the administration of local councils to understand the real needs of the communities and people.”
He feared that if the appointment of councillors in local councils “are fully based on political party lines, it would make the services of the authority less in quantity and quality.”
