SDI to organise Brown Bag talk on Aug 3

-

KUCHING: Sarawak Development Institute ( SDI) is organising a Brown Bag talk ( BBT) on ‘ Gen Y in Higher Education Institutions and at Work’ on Aug 3 from 3.30pm to 5pm at Azam Conference Room.

The talk will be presented by Associate Professor Dr Ting Su Hie, a senior lecturer from University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and a member of SDI.

Gen Y, also known as millennial, are in colleges and universities and have been in the workplace for the past decade.

They are unique and have different hopes and ways of doing things compared to the generation before them.

Ting will present findings from research on Gen Y conducted together with Humaira Raslie and Salina Pit from Unimas, Ooi Kien Bee from Politeknik Balik Pulau and Nuzaimah Muda from Politeknik Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.

The findings are based on surveys conducted on 430 Gen Y comprising 377 studying in polytechnics and universities, and 53 Gen Y working in the public and private sectors.

Among the most compelling findings are the reluctance of Gen Y to go the extra mile to complete their university assignments and work projects and the expectation that their Gen X employers would accommodate their preferred ways of working.

Also included in the talk are the generational clash and a comparison of Gen Y in Malaysia with their generational cohort elsewhere.

The talk will also touch on how to engage Gen Y in their academic and work life.

It is open to individuals to attend.

Registration is free of charge and on a first- come-first- served basis.

Contact SDI ( Evelette Robin) at 082- 415484/416484 to register.

The venue is Kompleks Azam at Jalan Crookshank, 93000 Kuching. interested
