Glam girls nail seventh gold in women’s trios

KUCHING: Sarawak’s keglers is making bowling fashionabl­e with gold- gilded glamour in Sukma XVIII with a seventh gold medal in the women’s trios event at Megalane Bowling Centre yesterday.

The women’s team of Jocelyna Judith, Nerosha Kelgit and Nur Syafiqah Sajeli scored a total of 3,443 pinfalls to take the gold medal when they beat the Negri Sembilan ( 3,414 pinfalls) trio of Nur Dayana Zuhdi, Nur Hazmida Syasya and Nurain Mustaffa by 29 pins.

Bronze went to the Pahang trio of Faten Najihad AF, Nurazeera Azizi and SH Munirrah S.M (3,406 pinfalls).

For Sarawak’s Nerosha, the trios gold added up to her fourth gold for the highest personal tally in the Megalane alleys at Batu Kawah.

Despite hearing the state anthem for the seventh time at the venue, the victory would have been much sweeter if the second women’s trio of Gillian Lim. Jaclyn Ng and Nur Aina Kamalia A. A had maintained their second position after the third game to take silver. But they were overtaken by the other trios to fi nish sixth.

Long- standing president of the Malaysia Tenpin Bowling Congress ( MTBC) Dato Dr PS Nathan, accompanie­d by Amateur Bowling Associatio­n Sarawak (Abas) president Sunny Si, presented the medals to the women trios.

In the men’s trios, the FT Team A of Cheah Yung Ren, Mohd Hafiq Zainuddin and Syaffique Ikhwan M scored a total of 3,664 pinfalls to take the gold medal.

Sarawak’s Abang Afiq Yazid, Christophe­r Tiong and Ervin Lim fought back yesterday to end up with silver ( 3,638). They fought hard in the fourth game of the second block and managed to lead by 132 pinfalls on a 674 total. But the men could not sustain their lead and settled for silver ware.

The bronze went to Sabah Team A men trios of Ahmad Azraei Tamri, Ahmad Fawwaz Farha and Mohd Ainal Narshad ( 3,523 pinfalls). Today (July 29), Sarawak will be hoping for more good hunting in the team event (9am to 5pm). — by Wilfred Pilo
