KUCHING: Four new Sukma records were created in the men’s and women’s 4x100m, men’s 200m and women’s hammer throw at Stadium Sarawak yesterday.

Malacca’s 4x100m sprint relay team stamped their authority when they broke the Sukma record with an impressive time of 39.89sec.

First runner Asnawi Hashim already gave his team a slight edge which Badrul Hisyam Manap extended further. By the time third runner Muhammad Azam Masri - who won gold in the 400m two days ago - received the baton, it already seemed like no contest for the chasing pack.

The Sarawak four, who fi nished second in 41.14s, tried their best to keep up.

However, by the time Raphael Asun received his baton for the fi nal leg, Melaka’s new national 100m record holder Khairul Hafi z Jantan was already in full flight to the fi nish line.

Perak finished third with a time of 41.94s.
