Woeful day for Sarawak as Pahang lift weightlifting gold
KUCHING: Sarawak ended the day with a woeful performance, f a i l ing to make a podium appearance in the weightlifting event held at Dewan Jubliee, Universit i Teknologi Mara ( UiTM), yesterday.
S a r awa k ’ s me d a l hop e Christopher Merayang Johnes could only finish sixth in the senior men’s 94kg where he was defeated in both snatch and clean and jerk events, collecting only 246 points.
Khairul Anuar Mohamad of Pahang emerged champion in the event as he lifted the gold medal (303 pts) after lifting 136kg in the snatch and 167kg in the clean and jerk.
The silver medal went to Arief Azwan Zulkefli of Selangor while, Melaka’s Naqqiuddin Mohammed Jaafar settled for bronze. — by Daryll Law
