Maxis projects 57 mln objects to be connected via IoT solution in Malaysia by 2020
KUALA LUMPUR: Communications and internet service provider Maxis Bhd, projects that by 2020, about 57 million objects from coffee machines to vehicles and closedcircuit television (CCTV), will be connected to Malaysia’s 32 million population via the Internet of Things ( IoT).
The IoT is a technology service that allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across the existing data network, creating opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer- based systems, resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit.
“Currently, just more than one million of ‘ things’, such as vending machines, vehicles and automated teller machines (ATMs), are connected to people in the country.
“So far, the Asia Pacific has the highest IoT adoption rate of 35 per cent in globally, mainly driven by China, Japan and South Korea,” said Maxis Bhd New Business Enterprise Head, Claire Featherstone.
Featherstone was speaking to reporters after announcing the partnership between Maxis and the United Kingdom-based communication provider Vodafone Group, on the IoT service here, today.
Meanwhile, Maxis Enterprise Marketing and Products Head Shanti Jusnita Johari said following the partnership, the telco can now offer its enterprises the best IoT solutions to optimise cost, improve operational efficiency, create more value and ultimately, deliver a better customer experience.
“We will be able to deliver the necessary technology required to businesses in Malaysia seeking to implement IoT services in their operations,” she added. — Bernama
