Abg Jo: S’wak mulls specialists cluster centres strategy
KUCHING: Sarawak is considering adapting the specialists cluster centres approach in hospitals across the state in order to evenly distribute patients seeking special treatment.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said the centres would be a reference point to outstation patients, who generally sought treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
“With this method, the government can allocate special equipments to these centres in other towns, such as Sibu, Miri and Bintulu,” he told reporters after attending the Health Department’s national-level Quranic Recital here yesterday.
“These cluster centres will solve congestions faced by SGH.”
In his speech, Abang Johari reminded the Health Department staff that expectations from the public were high; hence, they should strive to do their best at all times.
“The method of delivery here in Sarawak is different from West Malaysia, so you need to pay extra attention while serving here.”
Meanwhile, acting State Health Department director Dr Jamilah Hashim said the ratio of doctors to the population this year was 1: 800, which is better than the ratio in 2012, which was 1: 3,000.
“We are moving towards the national ratio of 1: 600, and we will come to that soon.”
