‘Continue supporting government to hasten development pace’
MIRI: Many areas in Baram still do not have electricity and water supplies, so the people must continue to rally behind the government to hasten the pace of rural transformation.
In making the call, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said he was told by Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau that very few places in his constituency had electricity, for instance.
“We should all stop politicking and start delivering our services. Let’s give our support to Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem to further develop Sarawak, particularly the rural area.”
Uggah, who is also Modernisation of Ag riculture and Rural Economy Minister, said this at The Appointment of New Office Bearers 2016-2017 for Federation of Orang Ulu Associat ions Malaysia Sarawak (Forum) cum Appreciation Night at ParkCity Everly Hotel here on Sunday.
He told those present that Adenan was committed in developing the rural areas, and he had a clear agenda for it.
At the funct ion, Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chuk Pai Ugon and Baram MP Anyie Ngau pledged grants of RM30,000 each to Forum while Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Datuk Henry Sum Agong, Deputy Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly Dato Gerawat Gala, Dennis and Public Ultilities Minister Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom each chipped in RM20,000.
Assistant Minister for Land and Air Transportation and Safety Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang each contributed RM10,000.
Meanwhile, when contacted yesterday, Dennis said there were 88 villages in his constituency, but only three of them — Long Laput, Sungai Dua and Seri Kenawan — had 24-hour electricity supply.
However, efforts to solar power another three vil lages were ongoing, and the project was expected to be done this year.
Another three villages, he added, would also be solar powered by 2018.
“We are still identifying nine villages to be fitted with solar power,” he said.
