ACCCIS to create platform for China-M’sia business opportunities

-

KUCHING: The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) plans to create a platform for business opportunities between Malaysia and China.

In a press statement, ACCCIS president Hu Yu Siong was quoted as saying this move is in view of the close relationship and the deepening of trade cooperation between Malaysia and China.

“Through the ‘One Belt, One Road’ (strategic initiative), China has all the ways to create US$ 21 trillion in economies of scale, allowing the businesses involved to access market opportunities in Asia, Europe, Africa and mainland China.

“ACCCIS is going to create a platform of business opportunities to drive foreign investment and to promote trade relationships between the two countries, by leading all chamber members to establish close co- operative relationships with Chinese cities, particularly in promoting industrial zones and maintaining renewable energy sources,” Hu said during the association’s 2016 annual general meeting (AGM) held recently in Sibu.

Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) president Datuk Ter Leong Yap officiated at the event which was attended by more than 200 delegates representing various ACCCIS members throughout the state.

Hu also hoped that the state government will continue to keep an open mind, show solicitude for the needs of the Chinese community, and retain current local councillors as well as community leaders and other Chinese representatives in government authorities.

“If necessary, actively consider the amendment of the State Constitution or any other feasible way, to appoint a Chinese for duty of Deputy Chief Minister, in order to convey the real will of the Chinese community, to facilitate in solving the problems faced by the Chinese community, and simultaneously, to strive for a balance of the various ethnic groups in the Cabinet,” Hu said.

He added that the sharp decline of international oil prices, high level of foreign debt, weakening of the ringgit and terrorist acts has caused businesses to suffer great distress.

“Everyone should raise their crisis awareness, especially during this moment of global recession and economic slowdown. Meanwhile, I also hope our government could give various tax adjustments in order to benefit society and help businessmen to go through the economic slowdown.

“ACCCIS belongs to everyone. I sincerely hope that all chamber members continue to work together, hand in hand, and together, we will build a splendid future,” he said.

Eight motions submitted by members were discussed and unanimously adopted during the AGM.
