Longhouse to host homestay carnival on Aug 28-31

SIBU: Several interesting activities will be held in conjunction with ‘Rumah Benjamin Angki Homestay Carnival’ from Aug 28- 31 in Rantau Kemiding, Kanowit.

The carnival is jointly organised by the longhouse’s Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) and Rumah Benjamin Angki Homestay Committee.

It is an annual event to promote the 80-year- old longhouse’s homestay programme.

The activities include traditional games, a longboat race, a tunnel boat race, ‘Kumang’ and ‘Keling’ contests as well as a ‘Carnival Queen’ beauty contest.

The programme will start on Aug 28 with ‘ batak lampung’ or the Iban version of ‘ tug- ofwar’, a bicycle race, children’s colouring contest, children’s karaoke competition and classic Iban song contest for adults.

Blowpipe, ‘ ngajat’ (traditional dance) and ‘betabuh’ (traditional music) contests are scheduled for Aug 29.

Kanowit MP Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang will officiate at the opening of the carnival on Aug 30.

The longboat race, ‘ Kumang’ and ‘ Keling’ contest and ‘ pocopoco’ dance competition will be held in the evening.

Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong will officiate at the closing of the carnival on Aug 31 at 3pm.
