70 deaf society members enjoy Hari Raya spread

KUCHING: Over 70 members of the Sarawak Society for the Deaf (SSD) were treated to a Hari Raya Aidilfitri dinner, courtesy of Market Management Services ( MMS) Sdn Bhd at a leading hotel here recently.

The event, which was also attended by families of SSD members, saw severalent­ertaining acts such as dances and a yoyo demonstrat­ion.

According to SSD chief executive officer Terence Ee, this event was held annually to celebrate Hari Raya, and similar gatherings were also held to mark other festive celebratio­ns such as Chinese New Year, Christmas and Hari Gawai.

Terence also advised parents who suspected their child of having symptoms of deafness after birth to approach SSD.

“We can help them in the right direction especially for their education. They need to be assimilate­d into the education system.

“Here at SSD, we aim to assist our members in getting a job and having a good life while at the same time leading a life similar to others,” he said.

Dur ing the d inner, SSD chairperso­n Wenderine Koo presented certificat­es tostudents who had completed sign language courses conducted by SSD.

MMS is an education placement group representi­ng institutio­ns f rom Aus tr a l i a , Canad a , Switzerlan­d, Malaysia, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand, to name a few.
