Musical showcase enlivens official launch ceremony of Sarawak Trending

KUCHING: It was a spectacula­r evening at The Galley’s Restaurant here recently, where artistes from across the state gathered for a special musical showcase hosted by Sarawak Trending.

The ‘Malam Akustika Sarawak Tanahairku’ attracted over 100 local music lovers, who came to enjoy the live performanc­es by Adi Mentor, Huza Tahir, Zah Amirul, Pete Kalang, At Adau, Ameen Buskers and Afi f Tenor.

The night of entertainm­ent – coorganise­d by the Youth, Sports and Solidarity Ministry, with support from Kuching North City Commission ( DBKU) and Tune Talk – was held in conjunctio­n with the official launch of Sarawak Trending.

The ministry’s chief assistant secretary Nancy Jolhi represente­d Assistant Minister for Solidarity, Rosey Yunus, to officiate at the ceremony.

“Sarawak Trending is an organisati­on that helps Sarawak youths in various fields. It provides them with opportunit­ies to develop their talents. We hope that we would be able to help them polish their skills – be it sports, music and entreprene­urship.

“Sarawak Trending is from youths, for youths,” said Sarawak Trending Group of Companies managing director Abang Mohammad Firdauf Abang Mohamad Dauhary, adding that the organisati­on was establishe­d on July 6 this year.

Currently, Sarawak Trending has over 200 members comprising students from various institutio­ns of higher learning such as Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Samarahan Campus, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas), Curtin University Sarawak (Miri) and Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus.

According to Abang Firdauf, Sarawak Trending is targeting to attract more than 10,000 youths into joining by the end of next year.

“We are planning to run at least one event per month, with the next one to be a treasure hunt.

“Apart from that, our plan also includes coming out with our own magazine that highlights youth developmen­t in Sarawak. The magazine will then be distribute­d across the state for free,” he added.
