State to have entrepreneur database by 2017
KUCHING: The state plans to compile a complete list of entrepreneurs at various levels by 2017 in order to better provide the necessary assistance.
Director of Entrepreneurs Development and Halal Industries Unit in the Chief Minister’s Department Samat Junai, said the exercise was also meant to help evaluate the entrepreneurs.
According to him, the total of 43,000 entrepreneurs recorded by the state is based on 2011 statistics.
“By 2017, the state will have the database for all entrepreneurs to help us to identify and analyse business needs,” he said yesterday, at the closing ceremony for a discussion and solution programme organised by Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment, Koperasi Belia

Some 50 entrepreneurs from Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Sarikei and Lawas participated in the two- day programme.
Samat said there were many entrepreneurs operating from home which made it difficult to compile a complete list and disburse assistance.
He hoped that the disbursement could be successfully carried out once the list is completed.
Meanwhile, Samat said the state will set up ‘ Anjung Usahawan’ in Lawas, Gedong and Sri Aman to help entrepreneurs to promote and sell their products, as well as function as information centres to help entrepreneurs.
He also said that a suggestion would be made to the state government to promote local products, especially in China, besides working with Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation ( Matrade).
Meanwhile, he urged entrepreneurs to be more proactive and creative in their business and not solely depend on their existing products and services.
