Know significance of National Day and fly the Jalur Gemilang — Rosey
KUCHING: The flying of the Jalur Gemilang at school level is an ideal platform to nurture in the younger generation love for the country.
Knowing the significance of the National Day celebration stirred up the patriotic spirit among the children, said Assistant Minister for Solidarity Rosey Yunus.
She said decorating classrooms and school compounds with the national and state flags created a colourful and cheerful atmosphere which revived the spirit of patriotism in the school.
“The fly- the- flag campaigns help nurture love for the country and a caring spirit among students, teachers and staff,” she said at a f ly- the- flag and Jalur Gemilang ceremony at SK Tan Sri Dr Sulaiman Daud yesterday.
Hundreds of pupils waved flags, performed the ‘silat’ (martial art) and sang in the choir.
The programme was the school’s way of contributing to the month-long state-level ‘Fly the Jalur Gemilang’ campaign from August 16 to September 16.
Rosey told those present to cherish the peace and unity brought by political and economic stability in the country.
“It’s our responsibility to preserve the peace and unity the nation had been enjoying since independence. Nothing is more valuable than being independent in a peaceful environment.”
She warned against unhealthy thinking which cloud judgements and could lead to destabilising actions. Rosey distributed the national and state flags to representatives from 30 schools in Kuching, Samarahan and Padawan.
She encouraged the people to decorate their premises with the Jalur Gemilang and state flags.
Among those present were Kuching Education officer Kamariah Said, representatives from training and operation division and National Civics Bureau ( BTN), Prime Minister Department’s deputy directorgeneral Mohd Nor Azman Arifin and BTN Sarawak director Yunus Taib.
