Owners told to submit valuation of their land in two weeks

-

KUCHING: Land owners near Kampung Gita whose land are being acquired by the state government have been told to come up with valuation reports for their respective lots within two weeks by the Land and Survey Department, if they are not satisfied with the amount offered.

Following a dialogue between land owners with the department yesterday, DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen in representing some of the land owners said that the government’s offer of RM384,500 per acre is below the current market value of the land.

He added it is also unfair to ask the owners to pay for the valuation of the their land.

Chong also questioned the real reason for the 100- acre land acquisition, which was supposedly for urban development.

“When we asked for their development plan, the department does not have any. Yet it was disclosed that a part of the land will be used for waterfront development, while another part for shophouses.

“Clearly the land is not for urban development as claimed but will likely be alienated to a private company for development. As it is not the responsibility of the government to build shophouses. It means the land will eventually fall into a private company. “Which company is it, we have yet to find out,” he told a press conference after the inquiry held at Land and Survey Department.

He also pointed out that if the government has real plans for developing the land, it should have identified the plans first before acquiring the lands.

“This is the reverse. The government is trying to acquire lands before they have a proper plan for development,” he said.
