Police uncover Syabu processing lab in Ampang, 13 suspects detained
KUALA LUMPUR: Police who raided a house in Ampang and uncovered a Syabu processing laboratory seized some RM2.4 million worth of drugs from the premises following raids around Klang Valley.
Following the raid last Saturday at several locations in the Klang Valley, 13 suspects comprising six locals, six Indian nationals and a Bangladeshi, aged between 22 and 49, were detained with one of them identified as a chemist who specializes in processing syabu.
Bukit Aman Narcotics CID chief assistant director, SAC Kang Chez Chiang said the raids which began at noon were carried out by a team from Bukit Aman and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Groups in Ampang, Gombak, Klang and Brickfields.
He told a press conference yesterday that during the raids, 9.3kg of crystal-like powder and 63 litres of liquid, both believed to be Syabu, were seized, besides a Glock 19 pistol, 15kg Ephedrine, various chemicals and drug processing tools.
Kang said eight cars, foreign currencies, a wristwatch and jewellery were also seized from the suspects who are believed to have been active in processing and distributing the drugs around the Klang Valley and Johor for the past six months.
He said the suspects would be remanded for seven days since last Saturday to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He added that from Jan 1 until last Thursday, a total of 124,186 individuals had been detained for various narcotics related offences and RM159.36 million worth of drugs seized, including 439.36kg of syabu, 325.10kg ( ketamine), 148,194 (methamphetamine pills), 2,510kg (marijuana) and 257kg ( heroin). — Bernana
