Traders assured problems will be resolved soonest
SIBU: Chairman of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Datuk Tiong Thai King has assured the Night Market traders that their problems will be resolved as soon as possible.
He gave the assurance during a dialogue session with members of Sibu Night Market Traders Association at his office yesterday.
Association chairman Wong Toh Sing brought up some of the issues at the dialogue session.
Tiong said he would look into the issues and resolve them as soon as possible, but told the traders to play their part, especially in keeping cleanliness at the trading site.
“This is very important. Both parties must work together. I will look into the matter and on your part, you need to keep the place clean.
“Otherwise, be prepared to get summons tickets from the council,” he added.
During the dialogue, the association asked the council to remove the garbage bins from the night market to create a more hygienic environment.
The association also asked the council to re- draw lines of the designated areas for stalls as most of the lines have faded.
They also requested the council to clean the underground drain at least twice a month and to change some of the worn wooden covers.
They also wanted the council officers to be at the site by 5pm daily to help in controlling the traffic flow.
Also requested were the installation of more multi- colour LED light bulbs to make the market attractive and to put up more lamps to lit up the area.
