KUCHING: Police are probing an act of mischief which resulted in a car parked at a commercial centre in Green Heights having its windows and windshield smashed by unknown persons.

The incident was discovered around 4.30pm on Tuesday when the driver of the car, an engineer from Singapore, was told by a coworker that the vehicle, a Toyota Altis, had been vandalised.

Upon further inspection, it was found that both the front and rear windshields, as well as the side windows, had been smashed by unknown persons.

District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai, who confirmed receiving a report of the incident when contacted yesterday, said the case was being investigated as mischief under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

“The car belongs to the engineer’s father-in-law, but was being used by the engineer to go to his workplace at Green Heights commercial centre.

“The motive behind the mischief is unknown and there are no suspects identified thus far,” he said.

In an unrelated case, Abang Ahmad said police were also investigating the theft of a fourwheel drive vehicle which was reported stolen just outside a university at Jalan Upland.

The vehicle, a Mitsubishi Pajero, belonged to a 22-yearold student and was parked outside the compound of the university when it was discovered missing around 6.30pm on Monday.

“The Sibu-registered vehicle was a 1986 model Pajero and valued around RM20,000.

“There were no witnesses to the theft and investigation is currently ongoing,” he added.
