Duo arrested after running amok

-

KUCHING: Two individuals were arrested after they ran amok and attempted to attack their own family members in separate incidents on Tuesday.

The first case took place around 4pm at Muara Tebas, when a 25year- old man flew into a rage and attempted to attack his mother with a machete after she refused his demand for money.

Fortunately, the suspect’s father, a fisherman in his 50s, happened to be home at the time and was able to prevent his son from possibly causing serious injuries to his wife.

Fearing for the family’s safety, the fisherman lodged a police report, which resulted in his son being arrested by a police team later the same night.

The second incident, meanwhile, occurred at Kampung Semariang Pinggir around 8.30pm when a woman tried to slash her elderly father with a machete after running amok at their house.

The father, who is in his 70s, had just returned home from attending evening prayers when his 33-yearold daughter confronted him and shoved him to the floor.

She then ran into the kitchen and grabbed a machete, and was about to attack him when she was held back by her elder sister.

The woman’s rage did not end there as she subsequently went on a rampage in the house and smashed various household items.

A police patrol team came to the scene following a distress call and confronted the woman, who reacted aggressively towards their presence and struggled with police before being overpowered and placed under arrest.

The woman is currently in the lockup pending further investigation.
