China’s property developer wants to invest in Miri
MIRI: Country Garden, China’s number 3 property developer, is interested to invest in Miri, taking advantage of the vast opportunities and Miri’s strategic location particularly its proximity to rich neighbouring Brunei.
Country Garden Malaysia Region president Jason Fu said equally impressive is Miri City’s rapid development and nice layout and closeness to beaches.
“My first impression of Miri City is it has an impressive layout with beautiful beaches nearby while the sea offers great diving spots and deep sea fishing, and its people are very friendly.
“I will definitely come back to Miri,” he told reporters after having a dialogue with his counterparts from the Miri North City Development Sdn Bhd.
Chairing the dialogue was Assistant Minister for Land and Air Transportation and Safety Datuk Lee Kim Shin and among those attending was the managing director of Miri North City Development Sdn Bhd Oliver Yong Tiing Hieng.

Accompanied by three other officials for the two- day visit to Miri, Fu is very optimistic that there is potential for growth in Miri.
“Being a neighbour with Brunei, similar to Johor and Singapore – both rich and developed countries - there is definitely vast investment potential,” he said.
Currently, he said, Country Garden Malaysia has four mega projects in Malaysia – two in Kuala Lumpur and two in Johor including Danga Bay in Johor, their biggest overseas project.
Meanwhile, Lee welcomed efforts by both companies to collaborate in developing Miri,
Jason Fu, Country Garden Malaysia Region president
which he said could become the next Gold Coast after Australia, in view of the long coastline.
“There are a lot of investment opportunities in Miri especially along its coastline.
Thus we welcomed investors like Country Garden that has vast experiences and financial capabilities in developing many major coastline projects both in China and also in Johor to invest in Miri and Sarawak in general.
Lee added that their move was very timely, saying during his recent official visit (from July 31 to August 4) to China, Miri and Wanda Group – China’s top tour operators - had agreed to have direct and chartered flights from China to Miri.
“Thus tap investment opportunities for the state at the invitation of Jason Fu today, I will visit China again.
“However I will first discuss with our Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg on the trip to enhance closer bilateral trade relations,” he said.
