40 people attend Kuching Toastmasters’ Guest Night

-

KUCHING: Some 40 people attended ‘Guest Night’ at M Hotels, Hock Lee Centre recently.

According to a press release, it was the first such event hosted by Kuching Toastmasters Club ( KTC) for the 2016/17 term.

More than half of those attending were guests, many of them there for the first time.

The event themed ‘ Be Our Guest’ showcased a line- up of speakers ranging from those just beginning their Toastmasters’ journey to veteran speakers.

“Guest Night is a great platform for us to meet members of the public and for them to find out more about us.

“KTC is a people- centred community, and we are all about helping our members to develop their skills in public speaking, leadership and administration.

“All our meetings happen as a result of our members’ collaborative effort in these three areas, and guests are always welcome to visit,” said KTC president Laura Kho.

An ice-breaking session allowed guests and members to mingle.

Those present were treated to witty impromptu speeches by a number of the guests who gamely accepted the invitation to speak.

“I enjoyed the varied programme which included interactive sessions where we got a chance to talk to each other as well as the wide range of speeches prepared, including a poetry reading and demonstration of live polling.

“The positive atmosphere of the club makes me feel at home, and I am looking forward to finding out more,” said Eric Ting, one of the guests.

The next KTC meeting themed ‘ Why Here?’ will also be held at M Hotels, Hock Lee Centre on Aug 21.

The public are welcome to visit.

Registration begins at 7.15pm, and a door fee of RM22 (inclusive of supper) will be charged.
