Rumah Dayak at Jln Satok awaiting OP

-

KUCHING:

The seven blocks of four- storey Rumah Dayak (shoplots) project at Jalan Satok is just waiting for an occupational permit (OP), said Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU).

Its treasurer- general Christopher Gira who is also Tamin assemblyman said SDNU development committee was monitoring submissions of documents to relevant authorities in the pursuit of the OP.

“Our tareget is to receive the OP before year end,” said Gira when officiating at the Serakup Indu Dayak Sarawak ( SIDS) Samarahan Thanksgiving dinner at a hotel here recently.

In responding to critics of the stalled project, Gira said it was important for the current SDNU executive committee members to ensure that the shoplots would be used as the delay in the project had been the subject of public ridicule. The Rumah Dayak project at Jalan Satok was launched in 1997 and among the reasons given for the delay in its completion were economic and political issues. The project sits on land owned by SDNU. It was developed by Canjaya Sdn Bhd which owned 80 per cent equity in the project with the remaining 20 percent owned by SDNU.

The 60-year- old SDNU has gone through many ups and down including some leadership crisis and was even perceived at one particular time as an antigovernment movement.

With Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom helming SDNU since 2012, it is now a respectable organisation with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem as two of its many symphatisers. Mawan is also Saratok MP and Pakan assemblyman.

During the Monday thanksgiving dinner Gira pledged RM3,000 in government grant to SIDS Samarahan to finance its annual activities.

Among those present were SDNU Vice president III Churchill E Drem who is also SDNU Youth Chief, SIDS Samarahan chairlady Emas Gijak, SDNU Samarahan branch chairman Henry Banyan and branch advisor Anthony Banyan.
